Tomás Flórez is a London-born musician currently based in Oviedo, Spain. He has been working in the field of free improvisation and ambient music since 2015, mainly exploring non-conventional approaches to guitar playing.
He has published nearly twenty albums, most of which have been recorded, edited and mixed by himself or by other members of Room 603, a multidisciplinary platform dedicated to music production, audiovisual experimentation and sound design for theatre. Though many of his works have been self-published following Room 603’s philosophy of DIY production, he has also had material published by different labels such as Contubernio Records, Syro Records, Oigovisiones Label, Seattle Dott Recordings, Unexplained Sounds Group and in various editions of the Procedimentum Electronic Postal Art Magazine.
His most recent solo project, Ars Natura is an ambient music album that builds on false field recordings generated artificially by processed guitar which try to emulate natural spaces from imaginary geographies. In Summer 2022 he was selected for an artist recidency at the LABoral Art and Industrial Creation Centre in Gijón to expand further on the project.
He has performed at La Casa Encendida in Madrid, at various free improvisation live sessions and festivals organized by the Madrid-based free-improvisation collective Raras Músicas, at the CAAMSonora sound art festival organized by the CAAM Museum of Contemporary Art, at the Ruido Vírico experimental music festival, at the Sound Archive of Experimental Music and Sound Art in Murcia and at the NUMAcircuit festival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Aside from his various collaborations with other members of Room 603 (including the Several Circles and Escape From Vallecas projects), he is also a member of the psychӕmbient electroacoustic-improvisation quartet LÅANG and one half of the ambient music duo ANGLE.
